My Relationship With Blogging Interview

About a month ago I noticed a little bit of traffic coming from a "sexy mom blog" called Hometown Queen Bee... turns out Cindy nominated me for the Liebster Award! Thank you, girl. It feels good to be loved <3 Cindy's blog is brand new, but definitely worth coming back to. Not only is she a positive person, but she loves herself - which is something so many mom blogs forget, I feel. When I'm a mom I want to be like Cindy :)

The Liebster Award is basically a way for new bloggers to give recognition to their fellow newbies. Although my blog isn't that new, it's only beginning to get where I want it to go and that's new for me. After all, it's not every day that you get a world class beauty brand giving you cool stuff ;) Anyway, keep scrolling for some interview stuffs.

  • What is your favorite part of being a blogger?

Being a blogger is fun and frustrating all at once. I've been at this for three years and finally things are starting to look up for me. After all this time my favorite thing about blogging is definitely the opportunity to help people. Sure, I'm not writing about anything super important, but the idea that a little piece of my advice might help make someone's daily routine easier or save someone a few bucks is good enough for me. Another great thing about being a blogger is the opportunity to meet new people and make great things with them. I just recently started working with an aspiring photographer @lollarollas who took the photos for my "Don't Give a F*ck" post.

  • What do you find most challenging about blogging?

It's an emotional rollercoaster. I'm not very good at networking, especially with people I know. This has been really difficult for me, especially here in Europe, because the blogging community is so small and those girls don't want to let anyone else in. I'm just not one of them and "not fitting in" is sort of my life-long personal crisis. I know it's good that I'm different than the rest, but it's also difficult to have to do everything by myself. I have to ask my boyfriend or brother to take my photos and if they can't or don't want to I just have to use a tripod. Sometimes it just gets to me that I don't have that power-clique every popular blogger seems to have.

  • Is blogging your hobby, career, or an extension of your business?

I started blogging in 8th grade when my now ex-friend made me my first MySpace profile. Unfortunately those posts are all gone now because my MySpace profile was deleted 14 times by local law enforcement (cops in California are assholes to suburban teens!). I wrote mostly about my everyday life at school and the daily gossip about various groups. My blog became like the local gossip column for many of my classmates and eventually got so big that the school administration got involved with putting an end to it. They even tried to kick me out of school! Anyway, as time went by I realized how good I am at writing and made it into my main source of income. You can see more of my professional writing at www.marinaladuda.com/writer

  • How much time a day or week do you spend working on your blog?

It varies, but now that I'm finally getting some attention and have this exciting partnership with Clinique, I'm on my blog at least 2x per week. I'm working on getting more content in hopes of publishing 3-4 times per week!

  • How long have you been blogging?

I've been writing since 8th grade, but MarinaSays has been around since late 2012, when my video of a Frida costume got way more views than I expected.

  • Where would you like to see your blog headed in the next 6-12 months?

I would love to see MarinaSays grow into a self-sufficient blog. It would be great to work with more brands and be invited to beauty/fashion events around Europe. I always thought I'd be a great reporter, so events would be a great way to get exposure to cool new campaigns or brands while also giving me the opportunity to try out a new format.

  • What are your favorite things to blog about?

Although MarinaSays is primarily a beauty blog, I'm rediscovering my love for everyday lifestyle kind of posts. Human relationships fascinate me and I think it's a topic people will never tire of reading more about. For sure I'll be mixing in a few more of those on here in the next few weeks, months. Slowly but surely MarinaSays is transforming into more of a style diary than anything else.

  • What are your five favorite blogs?

  1. The Zoe Report - Amazing content, perfect taste, and stories you can actually read. One great example is this story about the one thing Kim Kardashian is useful for... clothes :D
  2. Linda Hallberg - Not much to read here, but plenty of inspiration. Her photos are beautiful, she's gorgeous, and the things that girl can do with makeup are just too good to be true.
  3. Cocochic - Stephanie is smart and tactical in her posts. Her style is simple and tasteful. She's everything I want in a weekday morning read.
  4. Career Girl Daily - For the longest time I've wanted to be a writer for Refinery29... but after they started adding the Jenners/Kardashians to their daily posts and writing junk about topics I don't care about, I started looking elsewhere for inspiration. Career Girl Daily is like R29 for big girls. I love it. Every single post has a point, pretty pictures, and gives me inspiration to write about my own take on a topic. Here's a recent story I enjoyed.
  5. The Lo Down - I guess Lo Bosworth is some kind of celebrity, but to me she's just another cool girl with a blog. Although I can't afford basically anything she blogs about, I do enjoy coveting her fashion choices. Also, her photographer is one funny fellow :D

  • Tell us one little unknown fact about yourself!

I'm not sure how little known this is, but last year I was on the X Factor for Czech Rep. and Slovakia. I made it to the Top 8 and have been struggling with trying to make something out of myself musically since. I have a few original songs online at www.marinaladuda.com/music and just recently scored a gig singing at the Hilton Hotel here in Prague! If you're in town, get in touch so I can tell you when to come see me ;)

Okay, and now I get to nominate some of my favorite new-ish bloggers out there... are you ready? To the right are the questions each nominated blogger should answer in their post about the award ;)

  1. Why did you start a blog?
  2. What's your favorite blog post that you've written and why?
  3. If you could collaborate with any brand in the world, who would you choose?
  4. How how your blog changed since you first created it?
  5. List your top 5 reads of the week!
  6. What one beauty item or fashion accessory can't you live without?
  7. What makes your blog special? Give me your best pitch!
  8. What do you look for in a blog? What makes a blog worth coming back to?

Hi Ladies! You've been nominated. That means you get to answer the questions to the right & leave a link back to this post + nominate a few of your own new bloggers + ask them your own set of questions! Have fun.

- Krysta from Basically This. You remind me of Stephanie from Cocochic. You're doing great, keep it up.
- Carolina of Chicatalkch. I love your urban-girly style!
- Melanie of Deadlines & Dresses. Because you're really on to something. ;)
- By Roxanna because you inspired me to be an evil Minnie Mouse for Halloween.
