Spring is upon us with its usual crazy weather. And I'm not just talking about the sun and the rain! As I mentioned in my last blog, there's an awful lot of couples around. What I forgot to mention is that the constant fluctuation of degrees is also a large mood maker.
After so many months of snow, wind, and cold in general, it can seem pretty damn depressing to have to get yourself through another rainy day. Don't panic! There are many tricks you can play on your subconscious that when put together, can boost your mood unexpectedly!
1. Stretch. Reach your hands as far up as you can and breathe! This is especially helpful right when you're getting out of bed or after sitting at a desk for long hours. Your instantly improved posture is natural body language for positive thoughts!
2. Force as smile, then a laugh. If you are like me, you catch yourself frowning several times a day, even if you're not mad! That is no good. Just like stretching, smiling (even if there's nobody to smile at) is natural body language for uplifted spirits and creative or playful ideas.
3. Throw on some color. Yep, that means you are by no means allowed to hide inside of your charcoal rain jacket anymore. I use this trick more than any other because it's just so easy. When it rains or the clouds are gray, there's nothing more depressing than a crowd full of black jackets and umbrellas. Blah! I like to wear loud red pants, bold patterns, and even do my nails as a reminder of my current happy color. If you're not ready to be a box of colored pencils, try starting with a yellow umbrella.
Next thing you know the sun will be back and you won't even know what hit you! As a challenge to those having the most difficulty adjusting to the climate craze, I dare you to try what I just did here: take one garment from your closet that you absolutely love to wear on sunny days, and make it work with an outfit for colder days. Let me know how it goes!
