I've never thought of Valentine's Day as something to extremely important, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to go on a date or have a nice dinner or something. Because Tomy and I don't have an exact anniversary date, Valentine's Day is kind of my navigation point for about when things started heating up between us. It's been three years since I moved to Prague to work at that funny little startup that flipped my whole world on itself... the road has been twisty and bumpy and at times hard, but I think it's been for the better. Our relationship makes me feel that in a way, I've finally listened to myself. It may sound strange, but it's true.
Whether Valentine's Day has a romantic significance to you or not, it's always nice to know you look good. It doesn't really matter if you're single or taken, Valentine's Day is a day to commemorate love. To my single friends out there, I recommend celebrating a love of one's self. Do the things that make you feel great and have yourself a little me-day! To my friends with significant others, my only advice is not to take it too seriously. Just spend some quality time together. Whether that's cooking a meal side by side or buying furniture at IKEA, it's the teamwork and the conversation that counts.
No matter what your situation is, you'll surely want to look your best, so here's a quick look to get you started. Inspired by a box of chocolates, this pink and caramel eye with a brown winged liner will have you looking and feeling like a yummy bon bon in no time. Products & method:
Begin by applying a dab of white eyeshadow primer by NYX to the center of each lid. Be sure to blend with the tip of your finger. Next, use an angled brush to apply a light warm taupe color to the creases. With the same Smashbox, Full Exposure Palette ($52), choose a darker cool taupe to the outer most corners of the crease, and blend inward with a round tip blending brush. Now take the lightest matte color and apply only to the inner most corners of the eye and on the brow bone.
Continue by applying a pink powder like Makeup Store, Microshadow (£13.95) to the center of the lids and buffing until the color is soft and diffused (similar to how I did it in this look). How all you need to do to complete this look is top it off with a gorgeous brown eyeliner like Clinique Pretty Easy Liquid Eyelining Pen ($19.50 - click here to buy in CZ), some great mascara for a natural look - I used Chubby Lash iFattening Mascara in Jumbo Jet ($17).
For my lips I chose Clinique's Berry Pop ($18), to go with the well blended dark rose blush. For the blush, be sure not to overdo it. If you want to play it safe, stick to a light dusty pink or just a touch of bronzer. If you're not into dark lips, go with a great nude shade. I'm pretty into Nudestix Intesne Matte Lip & Cheek Pencils in Tamed ($24).
